Ferromagnetism in armchair graphene nanoribbon heterostructures

We study the properties of flat bands that appear in a heterostructure composed strands different widths graphene armchair nanoribbons. One is reminiscent one appears pristine nanoribbons and has its origin quantum mechanical destructive interference effect, dubbed ``Wannier orbital states'' by Lin et al. Phys. Rev. B 79, 035405 (2009). The additional found these heterostructures, some reasonably closer to Fermi level, seem be generated similar process. After doing thorough tight-binding analysis band structures kinds focusing on bands, we use density functional theory possibility magnetic ground states when placing, through doping, energy close bands. Our DFT results confirmed expectation after being appropriately hole doped, develop ferromagnetic state seems require, as case nanoribbons, presence dispersive crossing band. In addition, remarkable agreement between for charge distribution so-called Wannier states.
